[movies]HST SM4: STIS Repair, The Quest for Renewed Exploration - NASA
STIS was our first black hole hunter. It confirmed for the first time the existence of a super massive black hole in the center of a galaxy. And it went on to make the first detection and chemical analysis of the atmosphere of a planet around another star. We want to want to keep on doing that kind of work.

[movies]Biosphere Data Over United States Eastern Seaboard (Land Masked) - NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Scientific Visualization Studio NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, The SeaWiFS Project and ORBIMAGE, Scientific Visualization Studio. NOTE: All SeaWiFS images and data presented on this web site are for research and educational use only. All commercial use of SeaWiFS data must be coordinated with ORBIMAGE (http://www.orbimage.com).
The SeaWiFS instrument aboard the SeaStar satellite has been collecting ocean data since 1997. By monitoring the color of reflected light via satellite, scientists can determine how successfully plant life is photosynthesizing. A measurement of photosynthesis is essentially a measurement of successful growth, and growth means successful use of ambient carbon. This animation represents nearly a decade's worth of data taken by the SeaWiFS instrument, showing the abundance of life in the sea and al...

[movies]Resonant Dust Ring Sculpted by a Super-Earth - Christopher Stark, NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center
A planet twice the mass of Earth shepherds dust near its orbit into a circumstellar ring structure. Both the planet and the dust structure orbit the host star with a period of 5.2 years. Two regions of enhanced dust density lead and trail the planet, which causes periodic localized brightening. This simulation was computed using NASA GSFC's 420-processor Thunderhead cluster. Stark used the cluster to create a catalog of debris-disk structures caused by Earth-like planets...
